Honeycombe House - Access
Statement
What is an Access Statement?
An Access Statement is a written, clear and accurate, and
above all honest description of our current facilities and
the services we offer, to enable a potential visitor to make
an informed decision as to whether our business meets their
particular access needs.
Introduction
Honeycombe House is located at the top of a steep narrow hill
leading from the village of Mevagissey. The house enjoys breathtaking
panoramic views overlooking this
Cornish fishing village, with magnificent views of Mevagissey
Bay directly to the East and views of open sea to the South
East. The house is of Victorian construction built around
1892 and has twenty steps leading from the road outside to
the front door. The guest dining room and sitting room are
located on the ground floor, however our five guest bedrooms
are all located on the first floor.
Our location might make access for people with limited mobility
a difficulty.
Pre-arrival
We regret we are unable to accommodate children below the age of 10 years old. Well behaved children aged 10 years and above are very welcome when accompanied by an adult.
We are located a 5 minute walk from the village of
Mevagissey, and both cars and taxis can stop outside momentarily
to unload passengers and luggage. Access to the front door
is either via twenty steps from the road or via a steep uneven
public footpath from the road, (The footpath runs directly
in front of the house leading upto a quiet residential road
behind the house.)
Shops, Post Office, Cafes, Restaurants and Pubs are
located in the nearby village.
Lloyds Bank opens on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings
between 9.30 and 12.30.
The nearest Bus stop is located next to the Ship Inn
in the centre of the village. There are regular buses to neighbouring
towns and villages including the Eden Project and Lost Gardens
of Heligan.
There are several local taxi companies, for which
we can provide telephone numbers or book on your behalf.
The nearest railway station and coach station are
located in St. Austell.
The nearest airport is located just outside Newquay.
We have two dogs ourselves who are restricted to our
own parts of the house, but regret that we are unable to accommodate
pets.
Menus can be provided in large print if required.
We regret we do not have facilities to prepare documents in
Braille.
Our website www.honeycombehouse.co.uk provides pictures
of our accommodation and further information about the services
we provide.
You can contact us by telephone, mobile or E-mail.
Please see the Contact Information section of
this document for full details.
Arrival and Car Parking.
Rooms are available from 4.00 p.m. onwards on your
day of arrival. Latest check in time is 9.00 p.m. on your
day of arrival. Should you wish to arrive earlier, please
just let us know in advance, and one of us will be arrange
to be here to greet you.
In order to find us, follow the one-way system through
the village following signs for Portmellon. When you reach
the junction in the centre of the village with the Ship
Inn on the corner in front of you, continue straight
on and carry on up the hill. (This road is two way traffic
believe it or not!) You will find us on the right hand side
of the road, just as you reach the top of Polkirt Hill. We
are a large cream coloured building next to a steep single-track
footpath. You can stop outside (just beyond the steps leading
to the front door) momentarily to unload your luggage quite
safely.
We suggest that you DO NOT attempt to drive up the
single-track footpath immediately in front of the house.
We have a private car park located 40 yards from the
house. Priority for spaces in this car park, are allocated
initially to those guests staying in our Double rooms with
balcony Victoria and Albert.
Obviously, guests who have booked either balcony room do not
always have a car as they have perhaps used public transport,
or two couples have travelled in one car. In this instance,
for those guests who have booked another room, we allocate
the spaces on a first come, first served basis. For those
guests staying in our other rooms, car parks are available
in the village or alternatively ample free parking is available
just beyond the house - with a footpath leading down to our
front door! (this is where we park our car) Full details will
be provided on request and with your booking confirmation.
We offer assistance with luggage.
Main Entrance
There are TWENTY steps of 7 inches up to the front
door with a handrail on one side.
There is a further ONE 7 inch step to the front door.
The front door is normally locked but please either
knock or ring the doorbell on your arrival. Once you have
checked in, a front door key and room key will be provided.

with a guest sitting room on the right hand side.

handrail on one side of these stairs. The stairs are carpeted.

All Double rooms have a 4ft 6in double bed with access
from both sides.
There are en suite facilities in the three Double
rooms and the Twin bed room consisting of a Mira electric
shower, saniflow W.C. and wash hand basin. With the exception
of the Twin room, the washbasin is located within the bedroom
area rather than in the en-suite facility. All en-suites/shower
rooms have non-slip tiled floors.
The single room has a hand washbasin within the room,
however, the separate W.C. and shower/washbasin are located
along the corridor and down a further 5 steps, followed by
1 step up. These facilities are exclusive to this room.
Tea and coffee facilities, corkscrew, tumblers and
wine glasses are provided in each room.

bedside tables and a bedroom chair in each room.

further information about the house, village and suggestions
of things to do.
Our TWO balcony rooms Albert
and Victoria have access to a balcony area through
a Double glazed door in the corner of the room with a single
